You can prevent brain dysfunction and grow your brain if you know how. Scientists now know that stimulating the brain through the senses of eyes, ears, touch, smell, and taste trigger new connections between the brain and body and within the brain itself. It’s possible to grow new brain cells and build a better brain through these activities.
Building Better Brain Function
Do you want to prevent the age-related problems of memory loss, mental fatigue, and trouble concentrating? You can not only prevent brain dysfunction but also correct it. You can even grow your brain. First, though, you must decide you want to do it.
The right mental activity increases blood flow to the brain thereby bringing more oxygen and other nutrients to your cells. This is the first step to better brain function.
Here are some powerful activities to improve brain health and build a better brain!
1. Finger touching. Learning to type or playing the piano are great brain exercises. Typing is easy to learn. Make sure to use all your fingers when you type and not just a hunt and peck method of typing. Both typing and playing the piano work both sides of your brain and stimulate many sensory and motor areas of your brain.
2. Stimulate taste and smell. Stimulate your sense of taste and smell every day. You can do this by using different types and textures of food, spices, and oils. The sense of smell is associated with the memory centers of the brain.
3. Be bilateral. Looks at your daily habits and start using your opposite hand and foot for more activities. One fun one to start with is brushing your teeth with the opposite hand you usually use.
4. Brain routes. We all have regular routes we take. Perhaps the route is to work, the gym, or to shopping areas. In your mind’s eye, take a tour of one of these routes and recall as many objects, sights, sounds, and colors as you can. This activity pumps blood to the memory centers of the brain.
5. Create categories. Creating categories can help your thinking speed. For instance, you can use this idea and take your long grocery list and chunk items together by category. Fruits might be one and vegetables might be another.
6. Learn a language. Most people think the optimal time to learn languages is when you are young. That might be true, but it doesn’t mean as adults you can’t learn new languages. Pick one you’ve always wanted to learn and get started. There are so many tools available for learning languages! Remember to have fun and just so you know, learning ANY language works well for your brain health.

7. Storytelling. Seven major areas of your brain are activated during the telling of a story. While memorizing stories and poems stimulate brain function, storytelling is even more creative and imaginative for brain development. Dream up exciting stories or use real-life experiences to create your stories. you can even just talk to yourself. That works too!
8. Love. Being in love provides powerful stimulus for your brain. Studies show that having a loving partner improve longevity and brain health function.
9. Live your passion. Whatever it is you enjoy doing in life, do it! As much as possible, avoid doing things you don’t enjoy doing. The brain lights up when doing something you enjoy.
10. Get enough sleep. Aim for at least seven hours of uninterrupted sleep each night. Create the best sleeping environment possible. In your bedroom eliminate noise, electronics, and lights. Make sure your bed is comfortable and keep your room on the cool side. Avoid the presleep bad habits such as watching TV and drinking alcohol and caffeine too close to bedtime.
11. Change routines. Making changes challenges the brain to grow and develop new pathways. Even just rearranging the furniture in your home or office works. Think about what you routinely do and change up some of those habits.
