Which Foods Are Best For Brain Health?

Here are some of the key points to remember when choosing a brain-healthy diet.

1. Eat sufficient amounts of healthy fats. Sixty percent of your brain’s volume is fat. When you can, make your choices organic ones. Brain-healthy fats include: extra-virgin olive oil, coconut oil, fresh raw nuts and seeds, avocado, wild fish, free-range meats, and eggs (especially the yokes). Balance your dietary fats by including monounsaturated fats, saturated fats, omega-3 and omega-6 fats.

2. Control chronic inflammation by balancing fats and avoiding all vegetable oils such as corn, soy, safflower, and peanut oil.

3. Avoid high-glycemic foods and eliminate processed carbohydrates. Avoid sugar, white flour, white rice, pasta, crackers, bread, cereals, and cookies etc. You get the picture, right? All these food items contribute to inflammation.

4. Drink enough plain water.

5. Eat at least ten servings or organic vegetables and fruit every day. This one habit alone provides you with thousands of nutrients you can’t get anywhere else.

6. Eat high-quality protein each day. Include organic sources of grass-fed meats, eggs, and wild fish. Vegetable sources of protein are found in beans, lentils, and nuts.
