Do you have a SHIELD to protect your brain health? I can’t stress enough how much your lifestyle choices can help improve your brain health!
Here’s your SHIELD.
1. SLEEP: Getting enough sleep is of vital importance. Sleep is your “mental floss” because sleep is a natural cleanser of amyloid plaque.
2. HANDLE STRESS: Reducing stress is key because stress causes the release of cortisol in your body. Cortisol cause neuroinflammation and kills neurons.
3. INTERACTION: Social interaction, especially as you age, is critical. Did you know social interaction lowers Alzheimer’s risk twofold?
4. EXERCISE: Exercise is one of the most important and most studied ways to improve brain health. Recent studies have shown that exercise actually induces neurogenesis, the birth of new neurons.
5. LEARNING: Learning new things—a language, an instrument—stimulates neuron growth. Intellectual stimulation can actually cause new synapses to form in your brain. And that’s a good thing 🙂
6. DIET: A low-sugar diet is important for health. Sugar causes inflammation.
You can find A LOT of great info on my site regarding brain health.
